Haley’s Giggle

Countdown T-17

February 28th, 2008

Today was a momentus occasion as Haley received her (hopefully) last infusion of post-bone marrow process. I tried to count how many transfusions and infusions this girl has had over the course of her short sweet lifetime, but I honestly couldn’t. Somewhere in the hundreds, I estimate. And I’m not even counting the constant infusion of medicine and chemo she received for the 7+ weeks she was in the hospital, not to mention the transplant itself that goes in like an infusion. I was just talking about the out-patient stuff, since she’s been born. i even remember the times it would take literally hours just to find a good vein– I remember her screaming onthe top of her tiny lungs. I remember everytime a kink in one of her tubes would stop the infusion and make the process that much longer. I remember the hours holding her while all this was going on. To think that today may be the end of all that has not really sunk in.

    Hooray for this momentous occasion. I hope as strongly as I can that this is a time for a lot of “last time we have to…” milestones, as Haley begins the gorgeous new phase of her life on March 15. I think that all of this will be sinking in for a very long time, which is why it’s so great that you had the wit to keep track of it with the blog. You haven’t had the time or stillness for sinking in, because there was always the next hurdle to overcome. There are a lot of people who love you all tremendously and will be here for you for the joy and relief of what we hope comes next just as we’ve tried to be here (“here” being mainly the comments box in my case) through all that’s led up to it. And of course we’ll be here for Haley, for giggles and playtime and kisses and Rose Park and all the wide world for her.

    My Dearest Haley,::smile:
    You are just the cutest thing! We are so proud of you! You are so precious and adorable and you have lived through so much since you have been born. You are such an inspiration to us. I know that word “inspiration” is a long and mysterious word, but when you get older everyone will be saying how much of an inspriation you are to them.

    Inspiration means that you, in your short lifetime, have given us, your family, doctors, nurses and friends the ability to believe that with Hashem’s (G-D) help, we can overcome the most difficult of problems that life gives us. You certainly have been put to the test many times over and we are so happy that this year is at the countdown – T17 to be exact. You have stayed the happy, giggly baby from the time you were born until now, and when we see your smile, your playfulness, and hear your giggles we are overcome with joy and emotion.

    You give us all strength. You have given anyone who knows about you, a very special gift. That special gift is a time to stop whatever they are doing and say “Thank You”. Thank you, especially to:smile: you,:smile: to Hashem (G-D), your wonderful parents and sister Anna, to your family, to the teams of doctors and nurses who so carefully cared for you and love you.

    So many people all over the world, people that you will probably never meet, have been davening (praying) for you people always ask how you are feeling. They will be so happy to know that we are counting down the days already.

    Keep writing those wonderful letters. We love hearing from you.
    You truly are a special, special treasure.

    Lots of love and kisses

    Sabba and Safta
