April 5, 2008: Dirt and chips!
Helloooo! This is Haley, and I have some updates for you all.
Today I played in the dirt for the first time– It was awesome! I got to crawl around and Mom didn’t have to purell me or anything! Until now, I wasn’t able to even touch dirt because of all the mold and fungus in the soil, but I’m a strong girl with a fully functioning immune system. Of course this means more laundry, but given the fact that they should be covered in food stains, I think I’m being pretty good.
Speaking of food, I found a food I really like. No, it’s not cheese. Wanna know what I think of cheese? yuck. What I really like are tortilla chips– I had two of them today….yummy! I’m still not eating a whole lot, even though they keep lowering my Tacro (a word I can now say, though I can’t wait to have it out of my vocabulary completely). I basically still live on LIfe cereal and milk, and of course Grammy’s chicken soup with Matzo balls. I’m being asked to try a lot of things, like I’m the judge on Iron Chef.
So, I play in dirt, and I’m eating tortilla chips. But wait! There’s more! As if those two updates aren’t enough, I can now walk while only holding onto one hand! Ok, I don’t do it all of the time, but I can do it!
A HUGE hooray to Josh in New Zealand for getting in his platelets! It’s so fun making your own platelets! Congratulations, and thanks for sending me all those pictures– you look great!
Love and hugs to Dave in New York. And a big request to anyone in the New York area who can get to Sloan Kettering and donate blood and platelets for him.
OK, OK, my bracket is blown– no UCLA, no UNC. It’s Memphis v Kansas, and I hope it’s a better game than the two blowouts tonight.

You were cheering for Texas, you love tortilla chips, you are walking on your own timetable and worrying your mommy… Haley, we have so much in common! I am so proud of the progress you are making, and as always proud of your family for supporting you and helping you get to each new thing on each new day. Did you know that tortilla chips come in a huge and wonderful and highly caloric variety of flavors? Bring on the cool ranch Dorito-equivalents-with-a-hecksher (Utz maybe?) And then you’ll discover dips! Maybe mommy can get really clever with encouraging you to use the chip as a vehicle for other kinds of food, like applesauce or peanut butter or beans or whatever you want. I’m sure she’s already thought of that. And how convenient that matzoh is a lot like tortilla chips, so you can munch all through Pesach.
We met Dana’s baby Zack on Sunday. We can’t wait till we see him again at the Haley Victory Tour party, whenever that may be.
Much love,
Jen

Hurray for Haley! You have come a long way in just a few weeks. Sorry your teams didn’t make it to the finals. By now you Know who the champs are.
Hope we get to see you on Pesach. Can’t wait to give you a hug!
Love and kisses,
Eudice

Dirt is fun for sure! Well done Hayley. Sounds like you had a great time. And Josh’s platlets are now in tripple figures, coming in at 124!! Only 290 odd days until Josh can play in dirt too!!
