Haley’s Giggle

My first plane ride!

April 22nd, 2008

Hi everyone! This is Haley, and i just got back from my first plane ride since the transplant. It was AWESOME! I loved everything, I hardly cried!

I did manage to get sick, and my skin didn’t fare so well, but I’m doing OK!

I went to see Daddy’s family in Chicago– everyone was there: Nava, Josh, Yoni, Amir, Yishai, Michal, Orlee, David, Debbie, Eli, Daniella, Kayla, Judah, Yak, Elana, Abigail, and of course GG! Everyone was so loving and cuddly towards me.  Amir thinks I look like him. I had a bit of a hard time with the food this weekend, but luckily Nava went out to get me a smoothie from dunkin donuts…. yum!!!

I’ll be posting some pictures of that soon too (I owe a bunch of pictures)

I had so much fun with everyone, and I can’t wait to go on my next trip… soon!

April 14, 2008: Haley’s food ratings

April 16th, 2008

(PT lady came and said that Haley has all the potential to catch up, but there’s a long way to go. I take that as: Haley will catch up, yippee!).

What Haley says (What Haley really means)

Soup: thooooop! (I love soup, EXCEPT when there are things other than matzo balls or soup nuts in it)

Pizza: num num! (not a chance)

Cheese: num num! (you’re kidding– if i’m not eating pizza, I’m definitely not eating plain cheese)

Chocolate: PLECH (I get that the world is obsessed with this food, but frankly, it’s rather bitter for me).

Ice cream: PFFTSHS (While I appreciate that the world is also obsessed with ice cream, I myself find it a bit too rich).

Chicken nuggets: chickchick! (Good lord, y’all know what processed stuff goes into making a nugget? I’ll eat it if you actually tell me what part of the chicken’s anatomy is “nugget”).

Avocado: num num (you serious?)

Tortilla Chips: crackh! (finally! you found something i like! Of course, I’ll only eat a couple of them, just to drive you nuts, but you’re on the right track).

Tortilla chips with something on it: PLECHHHH (you had to push it, didn’t you? I show you what I like and you try to ruin it. Why don’t you just dip my chip in chocolate ice cream pizza?!?)

Life cereal: see-yo! (I call all cereal cheerios, even though I know they’re not. The cinnamon ones are oh so yummy).

Peanut Butter: no no no (If I don’t like chocolate, ice cream, or pizza, why on earth would you think I’d take to peanut butter?!)

Marshmallows: shishish! (that’s what mom says, delicious. But seriously, I’d rather ingest my tacro medicine than eat this fluff)

Rice cake: shishish! (now this is delicious!)

Chocolate milk: num num! (still chocolate– nice try).

Fruits/Vegetables: num num! (Healthy kids with normal eating patterns have difficulty with these two food groups, and you think I’m gonna be fine with it?!)

Eggs: no more (they just look weird, and slide off the spoon funny).

Fish sticks: num num! (meh.  better if you disguise them in soup).

Bagels/bread/challah/cookies/cake/donuts: noooooooo (Oh no! not carbohydrates!!!! NOOOOOOO!)

Water: watah! (this is so delectable. I’ll drink this all day!)

Apple Juice: JOOOOOOOOCE! (I’ll take a sip, but it’s way too tangy for my taste. And don’t try to water it down. you’re ruining a perfectly good cup of water).

April 13, 2008: I heart crayons!

April 14th, 2008

Hi all, it’s Haley.  Mom is too upset because the (Washington DC) Cap(ital)s (pro hockey team) lost (game 2 of the playoffs) AND because i accidentally drew all over the high chair. So I’m writing tonight. Hey, mom, at least i drew in a color that matches the tray!

If people don’t read the comments, I want to make sure everyone knows who Dan Carpenter is and the great news he shared — he’s the father of Josh, the 4 year old from New Zealand who had CAMT too… He’s doing great! 124,000 platelets and going up! I remember watching that number, and knowing that’s the first time it’s gone up on its own without an infusion. It’s the best feeling in the world! Way to go Josh! Only 290 more days– all of us here on Haleysgiggle are rooting for you!

I went to the doctor this week who says all is status quo– including my weight, which is not such good news. But I actually played with a spoon and pretended to eat out of a bowl with it, a first for me, so that’s progress.

Speaking of firsts, this weekend was the first time I hung out with the mom’s club kids! Even Dana’s new one was there, and I got to kiss him on the forehead. I got to play with Dave’s son, Reed– he’s so cute! A funny moment was when Mel thought she could feed me pizza because all the other kids were eating. I blocked her so quick with my uberquick arm-to-the-mouth block. I showed her!

Dana took lots and lots of cute pictures of me, and I’ll put them on the blog in the next couple of days… so watch out for them in the photo gallery!

Everyone is really worried about my eating. Especially mom– i scared her today because she got me to try a bit of a marshmallow and i spit it out. I don’t think i’ve ever seen that look of disbelief on her face before.  Gramps tried to get me to eat the chicken in chicken soup. I spit that out too. And my full-body block with Mel and the pizza, I mean, you can’t get anything in my mouth! Try me! come on, I dare ya! Of course passover is next week, which i hear doesn’t have such good food. except of course for lots and lots of marshmallows. who knows, maybe I’ll take to matzah and cream cheese!

oh my goodness! I haven’t even gotten to my crayon obsession! oh my gosh! I love them! I MUST hold one at all times, and I love to color ALL the time. I’m probably the only 21 month old that is allowed to hold a crayon without being supervised, because i won’t eat it! Problem is, I let all that power go to my head, and well, I’m writing tonight because mom is still cleaning my artwork from all over the floor.  hey, mom, at least i won’t eat the crayon!
